Pollywiggle is one of a range of Dream Bird patterns by Jo Avery.
Difficulty Rating: 3 (less easy)
The Pollywiggle is a large wading bird that migrates from Africa to nest beside Northern European lakes and ponds in the spring. It feeds on tadpoles (from where it gets it’s name) and other pond insects. It’s elaborate feathers are not good for camouflage so it protects itself from predators with a high pitched ‘peeping’ cry and by omitting a scent from special glands which is disagreeable to predators. Once smelt this scent is never forgotten and said to be like a mixture of marmite, over cooked sprouts and TCP
Disclaimer: bird information is completely made up for fun. This bird comes straight out of Jo’s imagination!
Create your own Pollywiggle using needle-turn applique and simple embroidery embellishment. These adorable birds can be used on quilts, cushions or clothing. Or why not collect them all together and make a fabric book like Jo? Fabric Book instructions are available as a separate pattern or FREE with the Dream Bird Bumper Bundle of 10 patterns.
This 8 page PDF pattern contains templates and instructions to make a 8" block (motif size 5"). The pattern includes full embroidery stitch guide, extensive needle-turn applique tips and instructions for raw-edge machine applique. This is one of a series of Dream Bird appliqué patterns from Jo Avery, and can also be purchased with 4 others as part of 'Dream Bird Bundle 2' or as part of the 10 pattern Dream Bird Bumper Bundle.
